Maa Baglamukhi | The Dasa Mahavidyas

In the Dasa Mahavidya Series, we are discussing Maa Baglamukhi today. The eighth of the Ten Mahavidyas. To read the earlier blogs in the series, click the links below.

In this blog, we discuss Her appearance, how to do Her Sadhana, what Her Mantras are, and the benefits of Her Sadhana.

Her name Bagla is derived from the word Valga which means to bridle or to rein in. Maa Baglamukhi has the power to control and paralyze the enemy. She also has the power to destroy enmity between two people. Due to Her powers of capturing and paralyzing the enemies, She is also known as the Goddess of Stambhan. Stambhan is derived from the word Stambh which means pillar. She is like a pillar that supports Her devotees and stops any harm from coming their way.

Here, it’s important to understand that the harm or enemy is not always necessarily a person or entity. It can be a disease, a mishap, an accident, a loss, any kind of grief, poverty, distractions, bad habits, addictions, health issues, etc. The five most harmful enemies are lust, anger, greed, materialism, and pride. In short, anything that hampers the growth of the devotee becomes his/her enemy and Maa Baglamukhi stops those enemies from causing any harm.

She is also credited with checking the mouth, silencing speech, and stilling the mind of the devotee, to help them progress in their Sadhana.

Her Appearance

Her complexion is golden and She sits on a golden throne in the middle of an ocean of nectar which is full of yellow lotuses. Her clothes, ornaments, and garland are also all yellow or golden in color. The color yellow or golden here represents happiness and the bright light of consciousness that Maa blesses Her devotees with. She holds the tongue of the enemy with one hand and spikes him with the other. She has three eyes symbolizing Her all-pervading wisdom and a crescent moon on Her forehead symbolizing fertility.

Her Sadhana

Just like any Sadhana, it’s important to be initiated by a Guru before you do Her Sadhana. The right time to do Maa Baglamukhi’s Sadhana is between 9 PM to 2 AM but if you are for some reason unable to do Her Sadhana at this time, you can choose a time of your convenience as it’s always better to do something than nothing.

Make sure you have taken a bath before Sadhana and are completely calm and cleansed mentally and physically. Wear comfortable loose clothes, preferably yellow and try to sit on a yellow cloth. After this, you can meditate to cleanse your energies and mind as advised by Swamiji in his live videos (any live video link Here) and then begin the Sadhana.

Her Mantra

“Hring

Bagalamukhi Devyayae Namah”

You can chant Her Mantra 108 times and then proceed as per your Guruji’s instructions.

Make sure when you do Her Sadhana and pray to Her for the destruction of your enmity and fulfillment of your goals, you don’t have anyone’s harm in your mind. No matter how bad your animosity with a person, make sure you don’t think ill upon them or ask Maa to destroy them. You should only pray to Maa to finish the enmity. By asking for someone’s misfortune, you will be attracting bad Karma towards yourself and also Maa’s wrath.

Benefits of Her Sadhana

There are multifold benefits of Maa Baglamukhi’s Sadhana

1. She helps you get control over your five primal enemies namely lust, anger, greed, attachment, and pride.

2. She helps you get rid of bad habits if any

3. She helps you get control over your speech and stills your mind

4. These, in turn, help you focus and attain success

5. She blesses you with all worldly and spiritual boons and all kinds of experiences so you can ultimately attain Truth

6. She protects you from any possible harm coming your way

7. If someone means to harm you, after a certain point, you won’t even come to know of their existence and Maa will have taken care of them.
