Not Being Permanent in the Job — An Attempt to Understand Through Karma
What Does the Bhagavad Gita Teach Us About Karma and Work?
The definition of karma kshetra the field of action is vast and profound. It includes every sphere of effort: professional work, business, personal skills, routine actions, or duties toward society. This field is subtle and layered. The unique identity of each person’s karma their work style, physical energy, and mental discipline deeply influences both the gross and subtle dimensions of their being.
Shri Krishna’s message in the Bhagavad Gita centers on karma. The ever-enchanting Krishna tells us that from birth to death, our only freedom lies in the realm of action. As we act, so shall we receive. Yet, Krishna advises detachment from the desire for results
Karmanye Vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana.
He offers the path of samatva equality in the face of both success and failure. For even a wise person, without karma, is like a lifeless banyan tree shadowy, but fruitless.
Why Is Job Instability So Common Even Among Hardworking People?
It is often seen that even when someone is honest and hardworking, there’s no stability in their job. Without consistency in one’s field, how can long-term growth manifest?
This instability can be karmic. The past actions of a person done knowingly or unknowingly form the foundation of their destiny. Even if one puts in effort now, unresolved karmic threads can cause friction in the present. Not being able to hold onto a job or business position may reflect the misalignment between the karma being done and the subtle blueprint of the soul.
Are You in the Right Work Field—or Just Pushing Against Your Nature
One major reason behind job instability is being in a field that doesn’t align with your nature. If you work in a job without genuine interest, you eventually feel drained. Mistakes increase. Frustration builds. The daily rhythm suffers, and your inner fire diminishes. Another contributing factor is lack of fair compensation when your hard work isn’t matched with adequate recognition or reward, your energetic field shrinks. The motivation to continue fades.
According to Jyotish Shastra (Vedic astrology), the tenth house of a person’s birth chart is the primary indicator of karma. It reveals the nature of your work, your role in society, your struggles, and your achievements. Whether your professional path is long or short, smooth or obstructed all can be seen through this house.
Unfavorable planetary combinations can disturb your karma field. Conditions of the fifth, sixth, eighth, or twelfth house depending on their alignment may create fluctuations, downfall, or obstacles in professional life. Even those who rise to powerful positions may suddenly collapse when a difficult dasha (planetary period) arises, especially if ruled by the eighth house. Destiny, as charted in your horoscope, reflects your previous births. Yet present karma still holds power to shift your course.
Can Present Efforts Overcome Past Karma in Career?
Yes. Despite adverse planetary effects, purushartha conscious effort has the power to rewrite destiny. Choose a field aligned with your swabhava (inner nature). In that field, your hard work won’t feel like pressure. You’ll flow naturally. Time will pass unnoticed. And eventually, that passion will become your identity.
The universe supports sincere effort. When one works with heart, nature responds. The blocks begin to dissolve. A clear path opens. And that very passion helps you attain both stability and recognition in your chosen profession.
