The Significance of Ashtami and Navami

Ashtami The importance of Shakti worship has been revered in our Upanishads since ancient times. The wise perceive the Divine Mother as one single essence, known by many names Durga, Kali, Ganapati, Shiva, Vishnu, and more. Even the Rigveda declares that though names and forms may appear different, the Supreme Reality is one.

Whether it is Guru Nanak Dev or Sai, all great masters have spoken of this one supreme power. Brahman is Hari, Hari is Shiva, Shiva is Kali, Kali is Krishna, and Krishna is Shri Ram. Tantra Shastra goes even further to say that one who sees division among deities is deluded. The power behind all deities is Maa Jagadamba.

Without Shakti, creation itself cannot function. All divine acts remain incomplete without the energy of the Goddess. Throughout the universe, it is Durga who moves as Maya Shakti.

Maa Bhagwati showers her boundless, compassionate grace upon her devotees. She remains ever devoted to removing their suffering and poverty, just as a mother is constantly devoted to her children.

The worship of Maa Gauri brings happiness, prosperity, and auspiciousness. For peace and harmony, her worship is considered highly beneficial. For sweetness in married life, freedom from suffering, and positive energy, devotees must engage in her devotion. Many visit Gauri Shankar temples and Tryambakam Gauri temples to receive her blessings and fulfill their wishes.

The ninth form of the Goddess is Siddhidatri, who possesses all eight siddhis Anima, Mahima, Garima, and others. She grants these divine powers. A seeker can attain spiritual elevation through her grace. It is through the blessings of the Supreme Goddess that even Lord Shiva manifested as Ardhanarishwara.

Through the worship of Siddhidatri, spiritual growth deepens and devotion strengthens. Wisdom and patience become the foundation of progress in a seeker’s life. If these qualities arise within, the doors of progress open naturally. Impatience reflects weakness, but the worship of the Mother grants steadiness and inner strength.

It is essential for every individual to worship all forms of Adi Shakti Durga with devotion. The Divine Mother is also worshipped in ten forms—Kali, Bhairavi, Matangi, Shodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Kamala, Tara, Chinnamasta, Baglamukhi, and Dhumavati.

These are the ten Mahavidyas, whose glory is boundless. Durga is Para Brahma Swaroopini there is no difference between the Supreme Absolute and the Goddess. She is Parvati, Chamunda, Chandi, Gayatri, and Mahasaraswati.

The nine forms of the Goddess grant a new life and purpose to devotees. Just as a child grows and is nourished in the womb, similarly during Navratri, a devotee experiences inner rebirth. This period is a sacred “muhurta”a powerful time to take new resolutions and move forward in life. It is a time when one’s power of intention becomes strong.

Progress in all areas becomes possible. These nine days are like a new birth, an opportunity given by the Divine Mother twice every year. How much one benefits from this sacred time depends on one’s faith and effort.

To receive something, one must make effort. The rest is guided by the Mother, who is the embodiment of compassion and exists everywhere, in every particle of creation.

“The Mother, who enhances knowledge, intellect, and meditation, grants the power to understand the deeper truths of life.”

Devotees who wish to visit temples may go to the sacred places of Maa Siddhidatri such as Maa Vindhyavasini Temple, Maa Vaishno Darbar, and Kamakhya Temple. Worship performed here leads to spiritual upliftment.

While Maa Gauri brings beauty, peace, and harmony into life, Maa Siddhidatri grants spiritual powers and higher realization. Worshipping both forms together creates a balance between material happiness and spiritual growth.

Sukh, prosperity, harmony in married life, and positive energy can be invoked by adopting the Mother’s root mantra:

    “ॐ गौरी दैव्यै नमः”

    Om Gauri Daivyai Namah

This is a simple yet powerful mantra. Chanting it 108 times daily allows one to experience the grace of the Mother.

For meditation and mental peace, chant:

    “श्वेत वृषे समारूढ़ा श्वेतांबरधरा शुभा।

    श्वेतगंधानुलेपना श्वेतपुष्पै: सुपुजिता ।।”

    Shweta Vrishe Samarudha Shwetambaradhara Shubha,

    Shweta Gandhanulepana Shweta Pushpaih Supujita

This calms the mind and invites the blessings of the Goddess quickly.

For removing obstacles in marriage or resolving relationship issues:

    “ॐ ह्री गौरी शंकराधांर्गिन्यै नमः”

    Om Hreem Gauri Shankarardhanginyai Namah

For increasing positive energy at home:

    “या देवी सर्वभूतेषु गौरी रूपेण संस्थिता ।

    नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ।।”

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Gauri Rupena Samsthita,

    Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah

For good fortune, offer kheer to the Goddess on Fridays or Mondays and chant:

    “ॐ गौरी दैव्यै नमः”

    Om Gauri Daivyai Namah

Observe sixteen Mondays (Solah Somvar Vrat) to remove marriage obstacles. Worship Maa Gauri along with Lord Shiva and offer white flowers and sandalwood.

    From Valmiki Ramayana:

    “स देवि नित्यम परित्पयमान, स्त्वामेव सीतेलयभिभाषमाण:।

    दृढ़ वृतों राजसुतो महात्मा, तवैव लभाय: कृत प्रयत्न:।। ”

Sa Devi Nityam Paritapyaman, Tvameva Sitalayabhibhashamanah,

Dridha Vrito Rajasuto Mahatma, Tavaiva Labhaya Krita Prayatnah

Reciting this daily with devotion in a Shiva temple fulfills desires for a happy household life.

    While meditating on Maa Siddhidatri:

    “सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षाद्यैरसुरैरमरैरपि।

    सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धिदा सिद्धिदायिनी॥ ॥”

Siddha Gandharva Yakshadyair Asurair Amarair Api,

    Sevyamana Sada Bhuyat Siddhida Siddhidayini

This removes obstacles and brings divine grace.

    For spiritual siddhi:

    “ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः”

Om Aim Hreem Kleem Siddhidatryai Namah

    Light a lamp while chanting.

    “ॐ सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः”

    Om Siddhidatryai Namah

Chanting this 108 times daily grants success and siddhis.

Offer red and yellow flowers and sweets to the Goddess for success in endeavors.

During Navratri, reciting Hanuman Chalisa removes obstacles and negative planetary influences.

Where the Mother resides, the blessings of all deities are present. Offering food like puri and chana, and honoring young girls during Navratri pleases the Divine Mother deeply.

During Navratri fasting, the purification of the inner mind begins. A seeker may feel restless at times, just like tides cleanse the ocean. Similarly, inner cleansing removes impurities gradually. Once the mind becomes steady, desires manifest naturally. During this time, Maa Siddhidatri uplifts devotees with love and grace.

All mantras and remedies practiced during this sacred period become effective. Therefore, it is essential to utilize this divine opportunity.

Whether it is material progress or spiritual growth, both can be attained through the worship of Maa Gauri and Maa Siddhidatri. Each morning of Navratri brings new life, new enthusiasm, and new energy. By embracing this, one can invite prosperity and maintain a positive mindset.

A positive mindset shapes outcomes. Surrender to the Mother with faith and receive her blessings.
